I am the very opposite of organised. I sort of seem to thrive off Chaos. I love a last-minute job. I’ve always been a last-minute kinda gal.
At school, if I had an assignment, I would FOR SURE do it the day before even though I had 6 weeks to do it.
But for someone like me with some glorious anxiety brain, it’s actually better to be somewhat organised. And so as I move through this journey of self health I need to also make sure I take care of my brain.
My beautiful friend Sonia recently helped me some ways to get organised for my schedule. I seem to work ALL.DAY.AND.NIGHT.LONG. And it’s because I see shiny objects online and get sidetracked. So now I have a schedule for myself. Its bloody awesome. I feel like a freaking grown up. Google Calendar is a hero. Sonia showed me her calendars and it felt like a little lightbulb moment. I need to use my calendar MORE. And so I do now. But that’s easy normal organisation. You can go on pinterest and easily search 5 ways to get more organised and find generic ways to get your shit together.
So after my meeting with Son, I got motivated. And thinking. What things can help all of us to get a bit more organised.
I am NEVER going to be structure structure structure. I live in a brain that gets wild with creativity. It doesn’t logically do things at all time. Sometimes my heart just takes the fuck over and off we go.
So how do I actually pull off getting through the week when I am not generally an organised humans.

Hang with Organised People.
Have a meeting with the Sonia’s of the world. And if you can’t get an appointment with her, then find your best most organised human you know, and ask them if you can take them for dinner or coffee or cocktails for some advice.
Organised people are freaking amazing. They fit SO much in their day. And it’s because they usually have small little ways structured into their lives to get it all done. They may have 1 tip that you can implement and that may be the game changer. Plus if you don’t get anything out of it. . .you got cocktails. YAY.

Groceries don’t have to rule your life
One thing that I can’t stand, is thinking of what to eat for dinner. If you follow my snapchat you will see it dominates my conversation. I recently asked my followers what the hell should I make for dinner and BAM. Everyone sent me snaps of what they were making and I had like 17 ideas for dinner. So follow me on snapchat and most days you will get a couple of dinner ideas you don’t have to think about.
Something that really saves me a lot of time in the week is doing one grocery shop. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I fucking hate it. And the weeks I don’t do it, I end up having to go to the shops every day grabbing stuff and I end up spending WAY more than I needed to cos we always get extras. SO what I do is open up on my computer a new note, or like the Woolies online shopping and throughout the week just add groceries and things I need. So when I’m working and I come across a recipes or something that looks lush, I quickly open the note and add the ingredients I need. It saves me so much time every week just doing a little bit here and there rather than sitting down trying to come up with every dinner and ingredients. We have a whiteboard in the kitchen too and as soon s something gets low we write it on that list and then when I’m doing the master list, I just add whatever is on that the whiteboard.
The List Writer
Now this one is my FAVOURITE tips. Sonia does it and I have always sort of half assed done it, but it’s so easy. And as soon as Sonia mentioned it to me, I was excited. . .mainly because I got to start a new notebook.
Go to your favourite Stationery shop. . .cough cough Little Paper Lane and get your hands on a notebook. Now as a stationery shop owner, I’m quite the expert on what you need when it comes to notebooks, so if you can, get a hardbound A5 book. You probably don’t want it any bigger because it will be with you at all times. Lines or plain paged is a personal preference, but start writing. This is your master list. So absolutely ANYTHING you need to do ever, goes on the list. You need new undies, it goes on the list. You have to email the queen, it goes on the list. You need a new notebook cos you filled the last one, it goes on the list. Once a task is done you just cross it off but it never gets crossed off until its done. Sonia has a daily list that she adds things from the master list and starts a fresh daily list each day and crosses them off and if it’s not done it doesn’t get crossed off the Master list. Its bloody awesome. AND you get to start a FRESH notebook. BEST.DAY.EVER! Suggested Notebook from Little Paper Lane(us) to make your life glorious. I JUST started using this exact notebook for my master list and it has quotes in to inspire you and is just a lovely notebook. This company also gives one notebook to kids at schools that need them most. So you are getting pretty stationery, helping our small business, and helping kids who don’t have pretty stationery. Its a winner
Schedule like an organised person would
Ok so this one is new to me. I usually just go with the flow and hope I have time to do fun stuff. And guess what!? I never have the time. So something I have done is schedule in time to do things that are fun. Like on Wednesday, Steve and I work together in the studio aka the couch in our house, and because he is home I’ve blocked out time in the afternoon to take the kids and dogs for a play at the beach. . .well actually the beach car park, because our council doesn’t let dogs on the beach which is kinda fucked up, but the kids love it, and because I’ve blocked out the time I know that its part of my day. Block out time for everything. If you want to go see that movie and you just seem to never ‘have the time’ just add it to your week and act as though you would if you had a meeting scheduled. We all work our fucking asses off. We deserve blocked out time to enjoy this life. There is no point working if you don’t get to do something fun. Be realistic with your time of course. Dont forget to schedule time to write your schedule
See it.
I guess one thing that helps me to not forget everything is have it in front of me somehow. My google calendar is great for work and whats coming up, but sometimes you only need one calendar that you can see in front of you. If you have a good pantry door, Buy yourself a calendar you can actually see. So for things like kids swimming, or important dates like birthdays, spend a few minutes at the start of the month adding to the giant calendar. So if like me you forget everything, every time you open the pantry then you will be reminded of certain important things and if you can see it’s in a week or so, you will be able to grab the present early, or wash the actual uniform the day before.
You could even DIY a calendar if your a bit crafty like this one from Kotivinkki
I guess the way to get organised the best is writing down what you have to do so you don’t ever forget it. For someone like me who will lose track of a thought in a heartbeat, if I put it down in a calendar or on a note, then its less likely to forget it. Even unorganised people can be a tiny bit organised I promise.
Do you have any easy ways to get a little bit organised?!?
