Xmas Traditions

Christmas is a big and happy time in our house. As the kids have started to get older we have realised we have some small traditions we tend to do every year. Just little things, but we all look forward to it especially the kids, and they have already started to talk about it now, and it really gets me all excited for the silly season.

We have been collecting Xmas movies for a few years now, and we made sure to pack them away with the christmas decorations so that we would only watch them after the tree goes up. Last year we tried to watch one Xmas movie a day for the 2 weeks before Xmas. That gets a bit tricky because owning a retail store at Xmas is mega hectic, but we manage to squeeze it in.Elf-filmour fav. Via

Another tradition we have started two years ago was to drive to Bondi, which is an hour away, and go to William Sonoma and buy peppermint bark. Iggy and I LOVE it and we keep it cold in the fridge to break a little off to eat with our Xmas movies. I know that I can easily buy it online and have it delivered, or I could even go to Chatswood which is closer, but I usually make a morning or afternoon out of it, and get a little Xmas shopping done. Last year I took Minty and my Dad with me, and Dad got to have a look at all the cooking stuff because he loves to cook and we went to Pottery barn kids  and Dad was able to get a few of Mintys Xmas presents and we just had a nice little shop and had lunch together. I don’t get to spend much time with my family outside of my house, because Coco the white beast dog can’t be left at home alone, so it’s really nice to get out and do something different.

One tradition I think most families do, is put their Xmas tree up together. As soon as I have my birthday (November 25th for those playing at home) the weekend after we set up our tree. Our tree is magical. I put a lot of love into our tree. Every year it evolves a little and now because of my christmas tree decoration whorish ways, we have a good supply of decorations. It also helps that I own a shop that sells some of the most gorgeous decorations. I’m so excited this year to decorate it. Iggy and Minty had a lot of fun last year helping decorate, but I know this year Minty will understand it all a lot more and she LOVES to help with anything, so I am really excited for her for Xmas this year. Last year on Xmas day she was in the most shitty mood, which isn’t like her at all, but she didn’t get into it at all, and she didn’t really get what was happening as much, and this year I know she will be in heaven.

I always make an effort with our christmas wrapping too. My Mum and Aunty have always done amazing wrapping themes at christmas, and as soon as I was in my own place I started the wrapping craze too.

Over on Instagram every year I have a competition for christmas wrapping. On Christmas day, I pick my favourite wrapping and send a christmas present to that person. You can find some amazing wrapped gifts and find all sorts of inspirations. Search the hashtag showmeyourchristmaswrapping and make sure you tag your presents and play along. It a VERY fun tradition that everyone really gets into and I sit late at night just stalking all the photos because they are so pretty and so thoughtful. It’s a tradition that I have been SO excited to start again.

The winners of the last two years, I still adore their wrapping.
