If like me, you are usually behind a computer all day and night with work, or you’re on Facebook pretending to work(I totally do that, we can add that to our gang related activity. . .ps, I’m forming a gang and you guys are all in, more on that later) and especially if you work from home, you may enjoy having a show on in the ‘background’.
I actually cannot work without my TV on. If I am working on my social media or other clients social media I usually have light shows on that I don’t have to fully commit my brain to. So shows like Housewives of New York, or Vampire diaries. Nothing that gets me too ‘thinky’.
But then there are those shows I have on and even though I have my lappy in front of me, I usually don’t get much work done because I get sucked in. But because my laptop is on my lap, it means I totally ‘worked’
So I thought I would share my favourite recent tv shows.
Recently I shared my love of Game of Thrones. Holy fuckballs of awesome is this show rad. And now I want a GOT GANG. The gang i mentioned earlier is apart of the got gang too. When I first heard about GOT(that’s short for Game of thrones for those playing at home) It took me about 2 years to even watch it. I do not like any sort of medieval sword fighting dungeons and dragons shit. I just can’t get into sword fights and dudes wearing metal suits. SO the thought of watching Game of thrones made my eyes get all roley. My friend Sarah who also can’t stand knights and lords more than me, sent me season 1 when I was pregnant with Minty and said I had to watch it. And even then I still didn’t watch it for a year. Then one day I just thought ‘crap, I’ve got no shows to watch, ok ill try it’ and we watched 3 seasons in one weekend. IT WAS AWESOME. So for those of you like me who never thought you could get into game of thrones, just give it a few episodes. Or if you like to read the books first,( I’ve not read them), but apparently they are pretty good. So maybe give it a read then binge watch. I recommend sending the kids off to Grandmas house and getting some delicious take away and drink all the coffee. You won’t want to turn it off. I just watched the season final and I feel depressed I have to wait like 9 months for the new season aghhhhhhhh. I’m considering getting pregnant JUST to keep my mind occupied. Then I realised the baby will come out the same time that GOT comes back on and I probably wouldn’t get to watch it, so imma suck it up and re watch it ALL from season 1.
Ok so this next one may be a bit harder to watch if you aren’t into end of the world and zombies. My favourite genre of tv shows, movies and reading(like actual books) is apocalypse. Anything that is end of the world related whether it’s from an alien attack or a virus wiping majority of the population out is seriously the best viewing for me. I’m not sure why? In my head I would be the leader of the end of world gang, but in reality I would be dead in 2 minutes because I’m not fit enough to outrun the zombies. Also I would be like super sad if I didn’t have internet and tv shows in my apocalypse world. I really want to snapchat the whole thing and filters on snappy with zombies would be freaking hilarious. So if like me you don’t mind a little zombie action, then Walking Dead is for YOU. Originally the walking dead was a cult favourite comic series so it comes with a bit of pressure from its comic book fans but I don’t think the show has disappointed them!? Who knows really?!? I’m not really spending my down time reading walking dead reviews from comic book fans, I’m too busy watching other shows. I love it though. The zombies are not too in your face all the time, its more the story of Rick and his gang of survivors. And like most apocalyptic adventures, the zombies don’t always turn out to be the worst thing around. What a cliché douchey end of the world thing to say hey Its really good though.via eww.com
Next goodie is Orange is the new black, and it’s awesome. I think you would probably class it as dark(sort of navy) comedy?! It follows Piper who is sent to jail for a crime from her past life. A life she had left behind catches up to her and she has to spend time in the slammer with a bunch of characters whose journey we follow on the show, as well as her former GF is in there with her, and of course they get it on and she has a fiance on the outside who she has to balance her relationship with. Its got a lot of humour in it, and it’s really well written, but it has some deep darkness about it too. It’s a good one to watch and you find yourself really connecting with characters and I seriously just watched the entire new season over the last weekend. And now I’m depressed its over.via hitflix.com
Wentworth. WHOA. Another jail show. But this one is dead serious and is Australian. FUN FACT. . . did you know that in my early 20’s I couldn’t stand Aussie and English shows. I really used to not be able to watch them. Or really get into them. The reason was, I worked on Home and Away for a year when I was 17 as part of my HSC for work studies(so fun) and all the magic went away for me for some reason? I don’t know really what it was but I just couldn’t stand Aussie tv or English tv. Now I bloody love it all. I don’t discriminate like I did in my 20’s. God 20’s Jayde was an asshole to tv shows. I wanted to be a movie star or a rock star growing up and for some reason I thought I needed to be American. Oh 20-year-old Jayde, you were really a bit fucked up in the head. Anyway back to Wentworth. Its a bit more of a ‘realistic’ view on what jail is like compared to OITNB(orange is the new black) which I think even though they try to bring that ‘real’ element of what jail is like, it’s still a comedy, where Wentworth is full on drama. Based on the old Prisoner from back in the 80’s the characters are both loveable and frightening. Its a good one to get into.
So that’s 4 that I think you guys would get into if you haven’t watched them yet. Yeah sure we should be out enjoying nature and shit, but sometimes, a rad tv show can take your brain away from he realities of the world and just enjoy a good story. I really want to watch Vikings next, and would LOVE to hear your favourites. A few past hits that I love and try to watch every few years, Buffy the vampire slayer(cult fav and in my top 5 of all time) X-files(for life), Fringe(love Walter), Alias, Survivors(English show, not the American survivor reality show) Wayward pines(season 2 is a tad slow right now though but still ok if you need something to watch) Dexter(last season is a bit all over the place though) Tell me more shows you love?! I’m such a fan of tv and movies. What should we all watch while it’s so freezing and I don’t want to go outside. Pffft who am I kidding, I would totally watch it all even if it was sunshine lollipops and flowers outside. If you wanna be in my gang, you will have to watch tv shows sometimes. Not really!? Gangs are cooler when there are no rules.
